I have recently ported several new or updated open-source packages to OpenVOS Release 17.1. They are now available on the VOS anonymous ftp site, at the following URL:
ftp://ftp.stratus.com/pub/vos/posix/ga/v-series/v-series.html.
aspell-0.60.6.1 – a spell-checking tool, GNU license.
aspell6-en-7.1-0 – an English dictionary for aspell (other languages are available from the GNU web site), GNU license.
cmake-2.8.4 – a platform-independent build system, BSD license.
coreutils-8.12 – common POSIX commands and utilities, GNU license.
libxml2-2.7.8 – the XML C parser and toolkit, licensed by the author.
libxslt-1.1.26 – an XML transformation language, licensed by the author.
nettle-2.2 – a GNU encryption library that uses the LGPL license.
Python-2.7.2 – a modern programming language, Python Software Foundation license (open-source).
rsync-3.0.8 – a file-synchronization program, GNU license.
These packages depend upon the “openvos.save.evf.gz” and “posix.save.evf.gz” packages (available in the same directory).
You must build these packages on your own machine. You should be using OpenVOS Release 17.1 or later, and you must have GNU Tools 3.5 or later installed. Complete instructions on how to build them are provided with each package. The gnutls package requires that you first build and install the libgpg-error package and the libgcrypt package.
None of these packages were particularly difficult to port. If you are interested in trying to port open-source software to OpenVOS, please read the following document: ftp://ftp.stratus.com/pub/vos/posix/Porting_Open-Source_Code.pdf.
None of the files on the VOS anonymous FTP site are supported by Stratus. Some of the files are supported by their authors, as best they can. See the README.vos files in each package for details.
If you have ported an open-source package to VOS or OpenVOS and you would like to donate it to the web site, please send me an email.
